How do you get to Nantes?
 There are several ways to get to Nantes. - By air, you can fly to Nantes Atlantique airport from 21 international destinations. - If you come by train, there are 23 TGV high speed trains to Paris every day.

How do you get around Nantes?
 Nantes has 3 tramway lines and 1 busway line to get around the region, with services every 5 minutes or every 3 minutes at peak times. This network is completed very effectively by the extensive bus network.

Where to stay in Nantes?
 The Nantes Métropole tourist office has set up a central reservation booking desk where you can book the hotel that best suits your needs online or by phone. The tourist office also has a great deal of information for you to choose restaurants or somewhere to go out for the evening if you are not taken care of by conference organisation.

3 – Are you coming to study in Nantes?

Nantes is the co-ordinator of the Western Inter-Universities network (10 universities, 240 000 students).
 Nantes university has 50 000 students and ten grandes écoles (competitive-entrance higher education establishments) including l’Ecole des Mines, ENITIAA, l’Ecole centrale, Veterinary College, Audencia, the Polytechnic college, etc.

Erasmus and international co-operation agreements
 Nantes University has special relationships with 332 partner universities around the world (56 countries represented). In 2005-006, 400 students from Nantes University were able to take advantage of one of the 170 bilateral Erasmus agreements between Nantes University and a European university. Each year, over 1000 students spend time studying or on work experience abroad thanks to Nantes University's different co-operation agreements
 In 2005-2006 Nantes University hosted 3561 foreign students, representing 130 different nationalities. Nantes University has decided to bring the Student Forum and foreign student reception together on a single site to help foreign students enrol at the university and assist them with their administrative procedures.
 A guide for foreign students: a real information tool This practical guide helps foreign students better understand their new life at Nantes University and gives definite answers to any questions foreign students may have before and during their stay at the university.
 An Institute dedicated to French as a foreign language training: the IRFFLE The IRFFLE (Institute for research and training in French as a foreign language) is the ideal location for technological training and research in French as a foreign language (FLE).

The international exchange and French-speaking centre, which will be opening soon, has a dual role: - To welcome foreign students in the broadest sense of the term (information, provide assistance in administrative procedures, educational guidance, integration, cultural events and language training support)
 - To help Nantes students move abroad (information, intercultural exchanges, encouragement to travel). This international exchange and French-speaking centre, which is a real international mobility portal, will provide the following premises: reception and co-ordination centre (140 m²), an information and documentation area (120 m²) and a meeting and training area (170 m²).

4 – Would you like to carry out research?

2 200 researchers and more than 200 laboratories: here are the key figures for the research sector in Nantes. The scientific community in Nantes is a very diverse one, yet still features sectors of excellence:
 - Immunoly et oncology : more than 200 researchers work in this discipline, with the constitution of an INSERM research department. The main companies in the sector are Chelatec, Innate Pharma and TcLand.
 - Nutrition : the region’s natural resources are exploited in the form of food additives and supplements by a dense network of small businesses (Biofortis), large industrial groups (Tipiak, Fleury Michon) and multidisciplinary public sector research (IFREMER, INRA and the university medical center) via the CNRH Human Nutrition Research Center.
 - Bio-manufacturing : Clinical grade production of recombinant products is developing strongly in the Nantes area, with fast-growing companies (Vivalis and Clean Cells) and public sector organizations.
 - Bio-analysis for product authentication : Nantes is a hotspot for bio-identification : Eurofins Scientific, Atlangene Applications are the main companies. The ENITIAA labs and those of the IGNA (Nantes Atlantique institute of genetics work in collaboration with these companies. So, specialised research and industrial production platforms (Génopole Ouest) reinforce this bi—analysis sector.
 - Thematic research institutes : ITERT (transplantation and transplantation Research institute) and the Thorax Institute combine healthcare provision, clinical research and basic research.

The foreign research centre
 The objective of the “foreign researcher reception” centre is to facilitate the integration of foreign researchers in Nantes, to provide value for the presence of foreign researchers in the Nantes urban area, to provide services and tools to Nantes establishments that host foreign researchers and to run the Foreign Researchers’ Centre in Nantes. The foreign researcher centre itself has 24 accommodation spaces (20 x 19m² studios, 2 x 23m² flats for people with disabilities and 2 x 39m² 1-bedroom flats). The Foreign Researcher association is the Nantes Reception Office for the Pays de la Loire Mobility Centre, ERA More.
